We spend an extensive amount of time training and honing our skills
as firefighters and medical response personnel.

| Our department holds training drills at least twice per month and we train
to NFPA and OSHA requirements. We specialize in water and ice rescue due
to the Chemung River crossing through our district as well as having several
areas of open water in the town and surrounding areas.
We are also part of the airport task force which is required to respond to all aircraft emergencies at the Elmira/Corning Regional Airport. FAA regulations require that we participate in the airport disaster drills.

Our department is also involved with specialized services. We are now required to train for hazardous materials responses.

These are photos of a boom deployment drill. We work in conjunction with Griffith Energy to assist in the set up of this operation in the event of a major disaster involving their bulk fuel storage tanks.
|
|||
We are also trained in the recognition and response to any hazardous materials that, upon release, could cause harm to our community.

Controlled burn at the Easterbrook residence on Reasor Hollow Road on April 30th, 2006. The house was originally constructed in the late 1800’s and the owner asked if we would be interested in using it for a live fire training drill. We were assisted by the Tompkins Corners and Golden Glow fire departments.
