The victim was buried in the hopper up to his neck in dirt and rock. His foot was wedged between the hopper discharge and a large rock making extrication very difficult.

Rescue personnel worked from above and below the hopper to stabilize the patient and to shore the dirt and rocks from further burying the patient.

April 3, 2006 – Rhinehart Sand & Gravel
An employee of the company became trapped in a hopper of a gravel crusher. It took approximately two hours to safely extricate the victim and he was airlifted as a precautionary measure. He was released from the hospital the same day suffering only minor cuts and bruises. This was a mutual aid call to East Corning Fire Department and a trench rescue team was also called in from Bath.
